S myšlienkou spropagovať ochranu prírody prostredníctvom výtvarného umenia prišli ochranári z Chránenej krajinnej oblasti Malá Fatra (od roku 1988 Národný park Malá Fatra) spolu s výtvarníkmi v roku 1978. Názov EKOPLAGÁT sa zrodil na prvom stretnutí organizátorov podujatia v Žiline dňa 6. februára 1978. V tom období išlo zatiaľ o prvú výstavu tohto druhu v ČSSR, a pokiaľ bolo organizátorom známe, aj vo svete.
V týchto dňoch si pripomíname jeho 43. výročie. Výstava bola po prvý krát nainštalovaná a slávnostne otvorená 25. októbra 1978 v Považskej galérii umenia v Žiline a trvala až do 8. decembra 1978. Organizátori zozbierali viac ako 400 plagátov z celého sveta, vybraných na výstavu bolo 150 plagátov z 25 štátov.
Jej úlohou bolo oboznámiť široké masy verejnosti nielen o význame a potrebe ochrany zhoršujúceho sa životného prostredia, ale poukázať aj na rozličné formy výtvarného prejavu zachytávajúce negatívne javy v prírode.
Cieľ a myšlienka výstavy je stále aktuálna a pevne veríme, že výstava bude pokračovať naďalej. V roku 2023 sa bude konať už jej 16. ročník.

/ EKOPLAGÁT celebrates its 43rd anniversary
Conservationists from the Malá Fatra Protected Landscape Area (Malá Fatra National Park since 1988) came up with the idea of promoting nature protection through the fine arts together with artists in 1978. The name EKOPLAGÁT was born at the first meeting of the organizers of the event in Žilina on February 6th, 1978. At that time it was the first exhibition of this kind in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, and as far as was known to the organizers, in the world.
These days we remind its 43rd anniversary. The exhibition was installed for the first time and ceremoniously opened on October 25th, 1978 in the Považská Art Gallery in Žilina and lasted until December 8th, 1978. The organizers collected more than 400 posters from around the world, 150 posters from 25 countries were selected for the exhibition.
Its task was to familiarize the wide masses of the general public not only about the importance and need to protect the deteriorating environment, but also to point out the various forms of artistic expression that capture negative phenomena in nature.
The aim and idea of the exhibition is still current and we firmly believe that the exhibition will continue. In 2023, its 16th year will take place.
